Yes, unfortunately, there is no scent of peony(((( I wasn't expecting it to be very strong, just thought "what if". The scent of peony is very difficult to reproduce. The actual smell is a bit bitter and floral, somewhat resembling cloves. I bought it to use as a fragrance for my humidifier.
The product does not contain peony, which I did not notice when ordering, but later read on the packaging.
